As with practically all recent Call of Duty games, Black Ops Cold War has one early weapon unlock that’s dominating engagements in multiplayer, and outclassing guns it shouldn’t be. We’re talking, of course, about the MP5 SMG, which boasts a high rate-of-fire, making it deadly in close range. It also has impressive ranged damage, to the point AR users have switched to it as their main now. On the game’s official subreddit, complaints about the apparent power of the MP5 vs other weapons are almost a daily occurrence, bringing back memories of the M4 rage at the launch of Modern Warfare. Unlike Infinity Ward, however, Treyarch doesn’t seem to be too eager to make any adjustments just yet. Lead game designer Tony Flame took to Twitter over the weekend to assure fans that teams are monitoring data and taking their feedback into account. That said, Flame explained that balance changes for weapons, scorestreaks and the like may not arrive until the launch of Season 1 in December. “Already seeing some interesting trends in the analytics, but it’s too soon for conclusions,” Flame added. As we’ve seen with last year’s Modern Warfare, sometimes more than one nerf is needed to end the reign of a popular weapon. The Season 1 launch, which does not yet have a solid date, will also be when Black Ops Cold War is going to merge with Warzone, allowing players to use its weapons, perks and operators in Warzone.
